Relaxed wedding dresses for farmyard weddings

Last week I took us to Italy to explore the ingredients for Italian Wedding Pie. This week we're going down and dirty with good old Farmyard Wedding Pie. Research by John Lewis published in Bridal Buyer magazine has shown that British couples have fallen in love with farmyard weddings
Of course ingredient one is the wedding dress and its suitability for unpredictable terrain. If your farmyard venue looks like the one in our picture a long train is not going to be the answer. Not unless, you want a nervous breakdown as your second ingredient
Go for an ankle length hem, in something floaty. Chiffon, georgette and tulle are all great options and look great with a relaxed bodice. A spaghetti strap perhaps or even strapless, but nothing too heavily corsetted. This is not Westmnister Abbey. You are not being Kate Middleton. You are a romantic maiden wafting through the corn to marry your best beloved

Gorgeous flower girls skipping through the fields

So, ingredient two. It's got to be a generous handful of sweet little flower girls bobbing about like wild daisies. Or perhaps charming little pageboys gamboling through the fields. Without the confines and formality of a church or hotel aisle, you can have as many as you like
Farmyard weddings are by their nature simpler and more casual. Your little attendants will appreciate loose clothing that they can run about in
I'd recommend a waistcoat, shirt and shorts for your pageboys. Your littlest girls would look super sweet in a beautifully simple Jasmine flower girl dress in the softest of silk. Your slightly older girls couldn't fail to shine in something like Elowen, a knee length dress, with a lace skirt. It doesn't have too many petticoats to negotiate and will leave little legs free for frollicking

Something really cool to go away in (or on)

How about leaving for your wedding night on a super cool tractor? Maybe not this one as it's up on blocks. But assuming you can find a working one, clamber up the side into the cab with your best beloved
If you can afford it, what about a change of wedding dress into a gorgeous knee length or mini version to show off a fabulous pair of shoes (and legs) as you climb. More is more, right? Fire the engine and watch as your guests salute you as you roll away into the sunset
So, key ingredients for Farmyard Wedding Pie:
1. One farmyard (mud optional)
2. One Lychgate bespoke bridal gown (or, maybe two?)
3. A best beloved (always in all my pie recipes)
4. A whole bunch of gorgeous little pageboys and flower girls
5. One tractor (definitely without blocks)
